The Area

Lawrenceville is one of the oldest municipalities in New Jersey. Founded in 1697, the Mercer County Township is characterized by its open space, nearly a third of which is protected by the Farmland Preservation Program. The town is also graced by 15 active farms that grow apples, peaches, vegetables and organic beef and chicken.

Home to Rider University, the town is also only a few miles away from Princeton and just an hour from Manhattan and Philadelphia. Lawrenceville also hosts two large corporations: the Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and the educational testing company ETS. The corporations are located at the northern end of town and provide nearly 4,000 jobs.

Perhaps The New York Times said it best on Sunday, January 8, 2006: "From its business district to its schools, open space, affordable housing and bike trails, the 22-square-mile Lawrence Township, which includes Lawrenceville, combines private initiatives with public policy for the good of its citizenry.
